Using the crown of an old scepter, I fashioned this lovely heavy paperweight out of solid oak for Pusey House in Oxford.

Sanri’s shelves

The first item to come out of the new workshop in the back garden; Sanri shelves were a pleasure to make mainly because she was very specific about what she wanted. It just remains for me to deliver them and find out if they are what she was dreaming about.

Bespoke easel made of oak

My second ‘easel’ job for Pusey House, this time I made the easel from scratch out of european oak. It was cut and assembled (using biscuit-jointing) on the dining table. I hunted down trestle hinges on the internet and finished it off on-site with a lavender scented wax that was a joy to apply. I was very relieved to set this portrait of Lord Halifax on to the easel and into its final position.

Black Box Safari at Harcourt Arboretum

Working with local artist and Magdalen Studios director Diana Bell and University of Oxford zoologist Dr David Bass, I designed and built this cabinet to hold a laptop computer for an installation called Black Box Safari. This was part of the Art in the Aboretum event that took place from 1st to 18th July 2009 in Harcourt Arboretum. The box was hinged at the back and held a laptop computer with the screen open to display a high resolution microscopic image. A magnifying glass was mounted on the lid of the box so that when a member of the public looked into it they had the impression of looking at a real magnified object.

Isaac’s bed

Isaac’s bed waste a hastily put-together combination of two single beds. When a double-matress become available, a new bed to take it was required. Two years ago I machine up the timber to make two single beds for each of boys. Due in part to the credit crunch, the timber needed to be used. The bed also required a proper paint job.

Mike’s shelving unit

This quick and easy shelving unit was built in a couple of days to accomodate Mike’s books and files. The chrome tubing and rounded corners give a smooth art deco look in a contemporary setting. I added a cork board so as to make use of the shelves in every possible way.

Mains cupboard

This cupboard took me fifteen years to build! It is not in any way what I imagined it would be originally. I like it nevertheless. I was pleased to be able to use left-over flooring to good effect. I installed a battery-operated LED light inside as well as the mains switch and RCD, it contains the Internet router and IT communications paraphernalia.
